John Schneller is currently working on an edge of reality series for juvenile readers.
I spend my days on the farms and roads of Wisconsin and Iowa. Veterinarian by name, cows are my game. My backstory includes farm life and rural life pleasures . . . fairs, hogs, cows, and being directed toward the sport that utilized my years of wrestling with a brother and cousins. I no longer fish and swim in the creek that yielded carp, chubs, and blood suckers, but I still drive through my heritage neighborhood.
A six-year stint at horseshoeing and commuting to the St Paul area resulted in a DVM degree from the U of M. Since 1979, southern Wisconsin is again home. Employment habits keep me at the River Valley Vet Clinic in Plain, and although my name has risen to the top of the column (longevity), my days have changed from the general practice, ‘I can do it all’ days, to a specialty in bovine embryo transfer.
My love for C.S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia have undoubtedly influenced the fantasy world my mind often enters. My On Mount Zi series would probably find its way to the end of the fantasy shelf. Most everything is grounded in precedent set by a very old history and prophesy book, which I treasure. It’s fun to watch nature verify some of the antics of my characters of fur and feather.
A good friend told me once that I was a storyteller . . . a kind way of not commenting on my writing skills at the time. It has been rewarding to learn the craft. I am indebted to Jerry Peterson and his comment, “Write the miniscene.” Thanks to all my friends who take the time to critique and engage the story.
