Tuesdays with Story

NO ICE OR SNOW! So we came out …
Ten TWS writers, plus new member, Meg Matenaer, struggled to find tables, chairs and space Tuesday night. Undaunted, they buckled down to consider the works of six of their colleagues. First item on the agenda, wishing Jerry and Larry speedy recoveries. You were missed. Also missed, Pat, who left for Arizona this week. Best wishes to her.
Millie Mader (poem, final draft, “A Broken Bridge”):
Bob Kralapp (Poem):
Jack Freiburger (chapters 4-5, A Walk Upon the Water):
Kashmira Sheth and Amit Trivedi (chapter 1, rewrite):
John Schneller (chapter 21, Final Stronghold): Suggestions for the chapter included, minimize ellipses, work on clarity where Kotel is moving through hills and valleys, reminders of what garogs look like, and the continuing efforts to make clear when mindspeak vs thoughts are being used in communication. Thanks.
Tracey Gemmell (prologue and “Hobnobs & Scooby Doo”): Hobnobs: Well received. Wives seemed to appreciate the digs at the husband more than some of the husbands did. Harry has been downgraded from ‘jerk’ to ‘brat’ at Deb’s rightful request. Suggestions included cutting some of the repetitive jokes. Prologue: Again, cut some of the repetitive jokes, maybe have one of the children on the phone as per John, but generally considered authentic and humorous with enough tension to make the reader continue on. Many thanks to all for your help.

Fifth Tuesday – May 29, 2018
Place: Larry Sommers’ home
Writing challenge: Telephone stories. Telephone, that thing with a cord attached to it, not a cell phone. Even better if a telephone booth were a part of the story, but that’s only a thought. Any old telephone will do. 500-word max
What to bring: Message from Larry: “We will provide some kind of a main-ish dish and probably a salad. We have a few odd kinds of soda pop, but if people have favorites they should bring their own. We can have a six-pack of beer on hand and open a bottle or two of wine. There again, people should feel free to bring some to share if they wish. We have all the paper plates, cups, plastic cutlery, and napkins we could wish for.”
Who’s coming? Of members present Tuesday night, Amber, Millie, John, Deb are definite. Jack and Bob, possible. Amit, Paul, Tracey, Lisa, Meg, unable to attend. Others, please let Larry know if you’ll be attending.
