Born and raised in the Bay Area, California, I arrived in Wisconsin as a teenager and have been here ever since. As a Human Resources Consultant, I study human behavior every day. But being married for 24 years and raising two teenage girls has deeply influenced how I see the world and what I write about.
Ever since I was little, I’ve gravitated towards a variety of creative outlets, primarily writing. My writing interests are poetry and women’s literature. Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Anita Shreve, Jane Austen, and Elizabeth Berg are women writers who have influenced me as a woman and have helped me find my voice as a writer. Reading Chick Lit books remind me not to take life too seriously.
My intended readers are women who are smart, complex, and strong, but are also sexy, playful, and naughty when they want to be. Women who can be nurturing mothers or lovers, but still have a life of their own. In other words, most women I know. I enjoy writing about the obstacles these women face, the choices they make, and ultimately what they find at the end of their life path. As a part of this study of women, I want to make sense of concepts I find equally intriguing, inspiring, and frustrating – kismet versus self-determination versus metaphysics. Do we make our life path, is it already set before us, or is there something unknowable at work? I hope my readers will come away from my writing having enjoyed themselves and having learned something along the way.
I am indebted to Tuesdays with Story members and my friends who give me honest feedback and push me beyond genteel storytelling to the unvarnished truth.
